Fil di Fumo

On the country we try to preserve the old ways, with much manual labour and natural ingredients.

The House ‘Fil di Fumo’ is situated just two kilometers from town, making it easy to go out for a stroll on Ascoli’s marvelous Piazza in the evening, or to take a quick aperitif at Meletti’s, one of Italy’s oldest and most classy cafés. The sandy beaches of San Benedetto and Alba Adriatica are only 20 minutes away.

Our little farm is sitting right outside Ascoli Piceno, the jewel of Marche region in the very heart of Italy. Little discovered by tourism, Ascoli combines the very best Italy has to offer: Rolling hills with vineyards and olive trees, its very own traditional cuisine, a thriving wine culture, grand architecture, and above all, friendly people who made hospitality their way of life. And the sea is never far away!

You will be staying in our dependence right on the edge of the vineyard and just opposite the main house. Fil di Fumo was just renovated, has a self-contained mini-kitchen and a private bathroom. It is a 35 sqm loft-space, that you will have all to yourself, including a small private terrace. Intended for two people it can easily host a family with children. Have a look at the Photo Gallery to get an impression of what it looks like.

Pick cherry tomatoes for the salad from the vegetable garden, collect ripe figs and peaches straight off the trees, or take the children to feed the rabbits and the chickens. Spend your day in the mountains, strolling around historical villages, or relaxing on sandy beaches – all can be reached in 20 minutes.

Once you have explored the city, reach out further to the dozens of medieval hilltop villages surrounding Ascoli. Each of these is a small walled city and a treasure in its own right. During summer many villages organize Sagre – traditional food festivals where often the whole town is in costume. Rarely have tourists been seen on these so far.

Driving from village to village you will be traversing the wine growing areas of the Marche. The steep hills, sunny climate and sandy soil are an ideal combination for a range of rich wines made by dozens of small producers. These artisans will be happy to welcome you to their vineyards and to invite you in for a tasting.

After an exciting day-out there is still a wealth of restaurants, pizzerias and trattorias to discover. Whether you like, fish, hearty traditional cuisine, elegant diners, or a simple people’s place – we are happy to advise you on the best spots.
