La Vecchia Stalla

Astorara featured image‘La Vecchia Stalla’ is our Mountain Lodge on a refreshing 1,000m sea-level in the village of Astorara, in the Sibillini National Park. This protected nature reserve is truly off the beaten track and at the same time only 30 km from Ascoli. The house sits in the last village below the Sibillini’s biggest mountain – Monte Vettore, towering at 2,500 m.

La Vecchia Stalla is an over 200 years old, massive stone building. Its thick walls will keep you cool in summer and warm in winter. We have only just finished restoring the house and are proud to be presenting it in its old/new glory. The house has three double rooms with some space for extra beds, if needed. All rooms have all mod-cons including private bathrooms. From the roof window over your bed you can see the top of Monte Vettore glow pink at sunrise.

The property is well situated for trekking with well-marked paths virtually from the doorstep into the mountains and down into the valleys. The owner, Fernando, speaks excellent English and is a gold mine of information on all the walking routes and the area generally. His wife, Iolanda, provided us with wonderful “five-star” breakfasts which included seasonal produce from their own farm. We enjoyed breakfast either at the front overlooking the village square or at the back with an impressive view of Mount Vettore.
